The Top 100 Contractors: A Billionaire’s Club

Posted in general, solutions, technology at 3:18 pm by ljones

Hey! Who wouldn’t want to be a member of this club! I know that I am all ready to sign up! Ok, so you probably have to be Donald Trump or Bill Gates to be a member. Well, there are some other members too! Washington Technology recently released their list of the Top 100 contractors. Guess who tops the list? Lockheed Martin tops the list again. Lockheed is followed by Northrop Grumman and SAIC which round out the top three. What do these companies have in common? They like many of the other companies on the list have reached or are close to reaching the 1 billion in revenue mark. A recent market research study found that federal health IT initiatives are increasing amongst the contracting sector. As a result, federal health care initiatives will total $167 million dollars this year. Prime contractors are jumping at this opportunity to expand their services and business ventures in this sector. In addition, contractors are expanding their efforts related to homeland security. The recent DHS Secure Border initiative is expected to be worth over $2 billion dollars.

Security Clearances Resume

Posted in general, military, solutions at 9:16 pm by ljones

On May 16, the DSS partially resumed processing of contractor security clearances. The DSS suspended the program nearly one month ago due to overwhelming demand and a $100 million dollar budget shortfall. The hault in security clearances alarmed many government contractors who filed a complaint with the DOD. The agency has secured funds to process Secret level clearances. DISCO will begin processing TS and periodic reinvestigations for both types of clearances upon receipt of additional funding. Maybe additional funding will be a viable solution to the problem. Maybe the DSS will be able to hire additional personnel in the future to help avoid the problems the agency is now facing. I would not mind a career with the DSS myself. Perhaps the agency will put out a RFI like some other government agencies and see what solutions and ideas might work.

DHHS Needs Your Help!

Posted in general, solutions at 8:40 pm by ljones

DHHS is looking for ideas on how to save and retrieve personal data electronically for use during an emergency. The HHS Request For Information (RFI) came about as a result of lessons learned from hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Millions of people were affected by these storms. Countless amounts of personal data and information pertaining to medical, personal and insurance information was lost due to these natural disasters. The loss of information caused confusion over benefits and hampered some relief efforts. The government is now working with private industry to develop solutions for the problem. The RFI runs until July 24.
